The world trading system and the EU are at crossroads: Support for globalization and trade liberalization is faltering, in European society, in other countries, and in academia, too. How can growth and welfare gains from trade be shared more fairly, sustainably and inclusively so that nobody is left behind and risks falling for polemic politics? How will multilateral and European trade policies have to respond and adapt to autocrats and populists in power?
