Funding for your stay abroad

financing options and give you advice on what you should consider when planning your stay abroad.

Many scholarship programmes involve lengthy application processes, which is why it is important that you inform yourself about the expected costs at an early stage and consider what financing might look like.

The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst, DAAD) is the largest funding organisation for international academic exchange and offers a variety of scholarship programmes. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of subject-related qualifications and personal suitability. The application documents must be sent directly to the DAAD.

Within the framework of the PROMOS programme, funds from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) can be used to fund one-semester stays abroad worldwide (not at Erasmus partner universities).

For individual regions with which Bavaria traditionally maintains close contact and cooperation, the Bavarian University Centres support individual activities in the fields of science, teaching and research. These are the university centres:

Foreign student loans and grants

You can also support your studies abroad financially with statutory grants such as the Auslands-BAföG (international student loans and grants), if necessary even if you are not receiving a domestic BAföG in Germany. Necessary tuition fees of up to 4,600 euros per academic year can be covered. Scholarships from the DAAD or also PROMOS or ISAP remain credit-free up to an amount of EUR 300.

Travel allowance

The University of Passau has funds from the State Ministry of Science and the Arts at its disposal to promote internationalisation. These funds can be used to grant you travel allowances. Only the travel costs actually incurred (return flight, transfer, up to 500 euros within Europe, up to 1,000 euros outside Europe) are eligible.
