Enrolment as a doctoral candidate

Please note that you can only enrol if your faculty has already accepted you as a doctoral candidate.

If you wish to apply for a doctoral programme, please visit web pages of the Graduate Centre and the Faculty Deans' Offices for information on the procedures:

Information for prospective doctoral students

Faculty information:

Please log in to the Campus Portal and submit an application for the doctoral programme of your choice. The further procedure for subsequent online enrolment is described accordingly in the Campus Portal. No documents need to be submitted by post to the Student Registration Office.

In the Campus Portal, all required original documents can be uploaded as PDF files in the appropriate fields as part of the online enrolment process, including the approval document from the Board of Examiners for Doctoral Awards. Please also upload the originals of your degree certificates as PDF files, as the Student Registration Office does not have access to graduation documents and is obliged to record graduation data for statistical purposes.

First step

Register online in the Campus Portal. After registering, you will receive an e-mail with your login details and further instructions.

Second step

Once you have registered, you can submit your application for the doctoral programme of your choice in the Campus Portal under “Login and application/enrolment”. Further procedures are described there.

Third step

As soon as your application status is set to “open admission” or “offer made”, you can complete the online enrolment process step by step in the Campus Portal.

You can upload all documents required for enrolment in the Campus Portal as original PDF files in the corresponding fields. No documents need to be sent by post to the Student Registration Office.

Once you have successfully completed all processes in the portal, you can view the further processing steps in the Campus Portal.

After you have submitted the documents

The processing of applications can take up to three weeks. If incomplete documents are submitted, the processing time will increase.

As soon as the status of your application changes to “enrolled“, you have been enrolled in the relevant degree programme and new access credentials for students (ZIM username) will be generated for you. You will receive these ZIM credentials by e-mail. Please note that your applicant identifier will be deactivated when the ZIM credentials are sent.

You can view the processing status of your application in your Campus Portal account. You can find explanations in the Application and Enrolment FAQs.
