The FIM Building, like other faculty buildings in Passau, consists of two wings connected by a glass atrium. At the Western entrance to the building, this is especially obvious, both wings parting away from the atrium at different angles.
Looking from the FIM Building entrance area towards the Juridicum, one might think the two buildings were built at the same time. After all, they are the two faculty buildings closest to each other. However, that is not so: the FIM Building dates to 1988, while the Juridicum was opened in 2000. The Admin Building, which extends from the Juridicum, was finished in 2002.
Facing away from the entrance to the FIM building, there's the ITZ building in the far background. a green sun dial in the middle background, and an artwork in the foreground. The rusty looking metal sculpture casts long shadows. A footpath leads away to the left into the shadows of trees, down to the river Inn.
On the ground in front of the artwork, a plaque contains the poem of a young woman who died in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. The plaque reads:
Das ist das Schwerste: sich verschenken
und wissen, dass man überflüssig ist,
sich ganz zu geben und zu denken,
dass man wie Rauch ins Nichts verfliesst...
23.12.1941
The heaviest burden: to give away
yourself and know you were not needed.
To offer your all, and, with dismay,
feel dispersed like smoke, deleted.

Addendum, in red:
I didn't have time to finish writing...
selma meerbaum-eisinger died aged 18 in a concentration camp like anne frank: a jewish girl who dreamed and wrote poems - love poems for a friend, which were considered lost for decades
Translating poetry is a task filled with creative choices. The above translation was produced by the web editor responsible for this page. You can find an alternative translation (along with a photo of the original poem) online, for example in the following Facebook post by the World Holocaust Center.
Each faculty has a student committee. These plan the orientation weeks, represent students to the faculty, and offer peer-to-peer advice for any study-related enquiries.
For example, they can show you how to work out the requirements of your programme and how to put together a timetable.
