Application for a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship

Funding term: 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025

Application period: 21 May to 1 July 2024 (23:55).
The application period has ended and applications are not currently accepted.

The application round for academic year 2025 will start in May 2025.

You will have to create an account for the online application form. This will allow you to interrupt the application process and continue where you left off at a later date. This link will become inactive at the end of the application period.

The application for the first selection round is exclusively online.

Find out everything about the process in our FAQ.

A pre-selection is carried out after the application deadline. You have to upload the following documents during the application process:

  • A signed print-out of the application form
  • Your chronological curriculum vitae
  • A letter of motivation (up to 1 page; not written by an AI system)
  • Your university entrance qualification
    • This is usually a secondary school leaving certificate, possibly in combination with German post-secondary qualifications (e.g. Feststellungsprüfung from the Studienkolleg).
  • A certificate of enrolment for the current semester (if available)
  • Your bachelor's degree certificate (only if you are applying as a master's student)
  • Supporting documents:
    • your education certificates to date (e.g. HISQIS printout, interim examination certificate or other student records, transcripts etc.)
    • any other skills and abilities or volunteering work (e.g. reference letters, awards, commendations, certificates of any kind, including for vocational studies)
  • Information on and evidence of special personal or family-related circumstances

Official English or German translations must be submitted for documents issued in other languages.

  • In accordance with § 3 StipG [German content], applicants' social and/or personal circumstances are taken into account in the application process. These so-called soft factors, which are listed separately in the online form, must be adequately documented and described, e.g. by a current medical certificate or a letter of reference from the psychosocial counselling service of the Student Services Association (Studierendenwerk), the Chaplaincy or a similar recognised institution. Please do not ask the faculty administrations (Deans' Offices) for any supporting letters.
  • Statements not sufficiently backed up with supporting documents cannot be taken into consideration for the scholarship application. Please check all details again before submitting your application.

You can apply for a scholarship even if you are currently applying for a degree programme starting in the winter semester and have not yet been enrolled. You will need to submit your enrolment certificate after matriculation, but at the latest when you receive your final scholarship approval.

If you have not yet started your studies in Passau, your academic performance will be evaluated based on the following documents:

  • Applicants for a bachelor's degree: The final grade of your university entrance qualification – this usually a secondary school leaving certificate, possibly in combination with German post-secondary qualifications (e.g. Feststellungsprüfung from the Studienkolleg). If your certificate is written in a language other than German or English, you should provide a certified German or English translation of this certificate. If you have not yet received your university entrance qualification certificate and final transcript, you may submit a current, non-final transcript/list of marks instead.
  • Applicants for a master's degree: Your bachelor's degree certificate (if available) or a current official transcript showing your average mark (preliminary grade). If you obtained your bachelor's degree abroad and it was not issued in German or English, a certified German or English translation of your Bachelor's certificate is required.

Certified English or German translations are required for all documents submitted that are issued in other languages. Certificates issued in a language other than German or English that are not accompanied by an official translation will not be taken into consideration.

Applicants who are short-listed for the second selection round will be informed by e-mail.
