“The University of Passau is among the top 25 percent worldwide for the eighth time in a row, and we are very pleased about this consistently strong result. This is the result of our joint work in the areas of research, teaching and transfer. Our internationalisation strategy is an important success factor for the future of the university and at the same time a strategic priority. We are endeavouring to achieve further improvements in the admission and supervision of international academics and students. The current THE result in the 'International Outlook' area shows a qualitative and quantitative increase of around ten percent in this area over the past three years. The fact that this internationally recognised THE Ranking continues to explicitly encourage us in this area gives us the energy and motivation to continue to successfully implement our strategic direction. I would like to thank all members of our university community who have made this possible", said Professor Ulrich Bartosch, President of the University of Passau.
The University of Oxford (UK) once again leads the global university ranking. In second place is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ahead of Harvard University (both USA). Only universities from the USA (7) and the United Kingdom (3) made it into the top 10. ETH Zurich once again came out on top among continental European universities, in eleventh place.
The Times Higher Education Rankings, which are among the most influential worldwide university league tables, see an increasing number of participating universities every year. The rankings are based on a comparison of 18 different indicators from the areas of teaching, research environment, research quality, knowledge transfer and internationalisation. Some of the data, above all indicators on the student body, staff figures and financial resources, are reported by the participating universities themselves, while others are obtained from academic databases and THE-conducted surveys among international academics.
