This positive trend can be seen in many areas: the number of students in their first semester increased by around 7.84%, from 2,233 to 2,408, and there was a 5.9% increase (from 1,547 to 1,638) in students for whom this is the first degree programme anywhere in Germany. The international student figure rose by nearly 1.5%, to a total of 1,647. The development among master's degree students in their first semester is particularly pleasing, with the number rising to 427 – for the University of Passau this means an increase of over 40%.
University President Professor Ulrich Bartosch said: “We welcome everyone, especially the new students, to Passau. It is wonderful that our university is increasingly popular as place to study for a bachelor's or master's degree.”
This time, there was great interest among new students in the fields of law, business/economics and computer science. There was also an increase of around five percent in the number of first-year students studying to become teachers.
In addition, the University of Passau continues to be very attractive for international students. In winter semester 2024–25, around 1,650 young people from 105 different countries will be studying here, around 16 percent of the total student body.
The above figures are preliminary. The final figures will be published soon on our website.
