For computer science, Passau's students awarded top marks in nine categories, giving above-average ratings in the categories “Study organisation”, “Support from teaching staff” and “IT equipment”. Mathematics was also rated “Top in Germany” nine times and did very well in the categories “General study situation”, “Examination organisation” and “IT equipment”. Overall, the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics exceeded the national benchmarks in these categories.
Passau's political and social sciences, which include the B.A. Governance and Public Policy degree programme, were awarded the highest grade by students six times, including for the “General study situation” and the “Range of courses offered”.
Passau's sports sciences programme was voted into the leading group five times, for example in the categories “General study situation” and “Practical orientation of teaching”.
In addition to carrying out student surveys, CHE also collects data directly from the participating universities. This is done to determine, for instance, how well the “Support at the start of studies” (for students) is organised. For the University, both the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics and the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences positioned themselves in the leading group among all German universities.
“The results of each CHE ranking have established themselves as a reliable and recognised guide, especially for high school graduates when choosing where to study. A very good positioning of our offers is therefore very valuable in many respects. I am delighted at the strong results for our degree programmes and congratulate all those involved at our university. First and foremost, I would like to thank the students for their trust and their commitment to the University of Passau”, said University President, Ulrich Bartosch.
The results of the current CHE University Ranking were published on 4 May in ZEIT Studienführer 2024. The ranking includes students' assessments of the study conditions at their university as well as facts about study programmes, research and teaching. The CHE University Ranking collates information on study programmes, teaching and research at more than 300 universities, and surveys around 120,000 students. The CHE Ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed of its kind for the German-speaking world.
