Dear colleagues,
at the beginning of the winter semester 2022/23, we would like to provide you with current information for academic and artistic staff and present the current projects of the “Mittelbaukonvent” (Representative Council for Academic and Artistic Staff).
We would like to extend a warm welcome to all those who have just started their careers at the University of Passau in the past days and weeks!
Information about our work, topics concerning all non-professorial academic staff, as well as further contacts are available here: https://www.uni-passau.de/en/university/governance-structure/academic-staff-council/

To help you get started at the University of Passau, we have begun compiling important information and topics typically associated with starting your working life at the University of Passau in one guide. We hope that this will answer most of your questions. However, if you find that important topics are missing, please let us know! The same applies, of course, if you have questions to which neither you nor your colleagues have found an answer. You can find the first version attached. The latest version of the Onboarding Guide will be available on our Website soon.
In the winter semester, the LEHRE+ team will again offer a wide range of events for continuing education and to acquire certificates. In addition to offers especially for beginners in teaching (“Übungen für die Informatik und Mathematik erfolgreich durchführen”: StudIP-Nr. 68765), two (online) seminars in English are also offered this semester (“Formative and summative feedback conducive to learning”: StudIP-Nr. 68771 as well as “Teaching in multicultural learning environments”: StudIP-Nr. 68780). For the complete program of events, please visit https://www.uni-passau.de/lehreplus-weiterbildungsangebot/#c84415.
All other information about LEHRE+ can be found at https://www.uni-passau.de/lehreplus/. The LEHRE+ team is always ready to help you with any questions you may have.
We would like to draw your attention to the fact that you, as the copyright holder of (especially scientific) publications, have the possibility to participate in the distributions of collecting societies (the amount depends on the publication activity, but has recently turned around to our benefit). One such collecting society is VG Wort. The prerequisite for this is that you first sign a collecting agreement with VG Wort and then register your publications in print or online individually. Publications already published in the past can also be registered retrospectively, but only within a certain period of time (publications in journals generally three years retrospectively). Detailed information on the different types of publications can be found in the main menu of the VG Wort website under Payments.
In the employee newsletter of 07/27/2022, the University’s administration informed about the cost-cutting measures necessary due to cost increases (especially in the energy sector). The Council is currently in discussion with the University’s management in order, on the one hand, to create an inventory of which areas of the academic staff are specifically affected by these measures and, on the other hand, we are already urging the University’s management to take measures to prevent a significant additional burden on the academic staff beyond the current level.
Here, we especially depend on your help! If you should come across problems in the course of the cost-cutting measures or if you are personally affected, you can forward them to us at any time.
Due to the increasing workload and the associated problem of an increasing number of (unpaid) overtime hours in many departments, we are currently working on possible concepts to achieve an improvement in working conditions.
We will provide you with new information on this in the coming weeks.
On our website https://www.uni-passau.de/en/university/governance-structure/academic-staff-council/ you can find more information about topics of the scientific mid-level, about our work as a representative body, as well as contact information of the representatives of the Council.
If you have any questions, hints or suggestions, please feel free to contact us at any time! The whole Council wishes you a good start into the new semester!
Best regards on behalf of the entire Council
Florian (Brüderlin)
