The Times Higher Education Rankings are among the most influential worldwide university tables, which only include excellent universities. The data collected for the purpose of the rankings are aligned along the dimensions of research, teaching and knowledge transfer. While some of the data are provided by the participating universities themselves, others – such as research, which is measured on published articles – are collected by THE via specialised databases. Besides the World University Rankings, subject rankings are carried out annually for individual academic disciplines.

Professor Carola Jungwirth, President of the University of Passau, said: 'Once more, this result shows that focusing our research and teaching on the effects of digitalisation on society is an effective strategy. I am very pleased about this strong result, which to achieve I consider to be one of the key tasks of the University. By subjecting ourselves to international comparisons like this, we can identify areas of potential for individual academic departments, faculties, and even the university as a whole. Ultimately, that enables us to discharge our duty to our early career researchers.'
