TFU's aim, beyond expanding cooperation with universities and institutes in Ukraine, is to give Ukrainian students the opportunity to study at the University of Passau. It is also anticipated that this will lead to the establishment of double degree programmes with Ukrainian universities in the near future.
"In the midst of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, it is crucial not only to offer support and guidance within the academic community, but also to continue and expand joint teaching and research efforts with Ukrainian institutions", said Professor Jan-Philipp Ahrens, who launched the initiative and heads TFU. Vice President of the University of Passau for International Affairs and Diversity, Professor Christina Hansen, added: "The initiative not only strengthens professional cooperation between colleagues from Ukraine and Passau but is also a statement by the University that a European heart beats within it."
As part of TFU's activities, Ukrainian academics from Kyiv and Odesa have visited the University of Passau to conduct in-depth discussions on the envisaged double master's degree programmes. They were welcomed by Vice President Professor Christina Hansen, Professor Jan-Philipp Ahrens (Interim Chair of Corporate Governance), Florence Ertel (doctoral candidate and head of the Science Hub for Europe at the University of Passau), Laura Strobl (student leader TFU staff), Professor Carolin Haeussler (Chair of Organisation, Technology Management and Entrepreneurship), Professor Olga Goncharova (Visiting Professor at the Chair of Organisation, Technology Management and Entrepreneurship), Professor Alena Otto (Chair of Management Science/Operations and Supply Chain Management), Professor Marc Goerigk (Chair of Business Decisions and Data Science), Professor Johann Graf Lambsdorff (Chair of Economic Theory) and Professor Jürgen Jerger (Chair of International and Monetary Economics and Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies at the University of Regensburg).
About Task Force Ukraine
As part of the university's strategic focus on internationalisation and increasing student numbers, Task Force Ukraine is actively working to establish partnerships with up to twelve Ukrainian universities to develop double master's degree programmes. The programmes are intended to be a vibrant platform for future collaborations, to promote academic and cultural exchange, and to provide participating students with humanitarian support and, in selected cases, scholarship funding.
TFU is supported by the President of the University of Passau, Professor Ulrich Bartosch, the Vice President of the University of Passau for International Affairs and Diversity, Professor Christina Hansen, and the University Senate member Professor Franz Lehner. It was constituted by the Vice President for Research, Professor Jan Schumann.
