The public colloquium will address the need to invest in resilience mechanisms in communication networks and networked systems. PICAIS Fellow Prof Dr Jacek Rak from the Gdansk University of Technology (Poland) will begin with a consideration of common network element failure scenarios and their classification in terms of number, location, duration and extent of failures. He will then focus on the role of resilience mechanisms in providing an acceptable level of resilience under difficult conditions. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of the potential costs and obvious benefits of applying resilience mechanisms and their main challenges.
