The latest rankings for the Computer Science course by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE), compiled for the German newspaper “Die Zeit”, put the University of Passau squarely in the top group of the 63 university departments evaluated. Passau’s Computer Science faculty is among the top German faculties in the categories “research funding” and “overall study environment”, “academic support” and “IT infrastructure”.

As Professor Dr. Martin Kreuzer, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics points out: “The fact that our relatively young and small faculty receives these excellent ratings shows that we have come into our own. We have a strong research profile and excellent facilities, and our graduates enjoy excellent employment opportunities in the private sector as well as in academia.” He adds: “Our new Bachelor’s degree course in Mobile and Embedded Systems, which will start in the winter term, is intended to further sharpen our profile, offer additional attractive occupational prospects and further heighten their satisfaction with the faculty’s offering of courses.”

The CHE ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed of its kind in the German-speaking world. CHE evaluated more than 300 higher education institutions in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Topics covered include the quality of the universities’ degree programmes, teaching standards, equipment and research, as well as the verdict of 250,000 students about the study conditions at their higher education institutions.

The results of the ranking were published on 2 May 2012 by German newspaper Die Zeit. One-third of all subjects are re-evaluated each year.
