Statement from the University President
In the night of 5 November, several buildings of the University of Passau were smeared with Nazi symbols. This is a criminal offence. In the morning, the University filed an official complaint with the police, who are now investigating the matter. The damage to the façades will be repaired with haste.
University President Professor Ulrich Bartosch issued the following statement: “Just a few days before the German Memorial Day on 9 November, we are reminded that we must never cease to condemn the crimes of the National Socialist regime. The symbols of evil on the walls of a place of freedom and tolerance may appal us, but more than that, they revolt us. Smeared on the walls also signalises: This isn't part of who we are. This evil ideology has no place in our institution. The University of Passau and all its members stand united in this repudiation.”
If you have questions regarding the police investigation, please contact the Passau police department.
