First-generation academics at the University of Passau

Anyone who is the first in their family to study at university will have lots of questions when starting out on their academic journey that cannot be answered using their parents' experience or the experience of their parents' friends.

Sometimes, a formidable gap can develop between their life as a student and their life at home with their family. Furthermore, first-generation students may face problems funding their studies or generally feel insecure or out of place at university. In a bid to create greater awareness for these issues, we invite all first-generation students to a kick-off on Tuesday, 11 June 2024, from 17:00 to 19:00 in Room LU8 206 (Ludwigstrasse 8 Building). All first-generation students and staff (regardless of employment as academic staff or professional support staff) are invited.

Together with Dr Petra Redel, Antje Sarodnick and Dr Alexandra Schick, also first-generation academics, you can discuss the topic and share your own experiences. Building on this, first-generation students at the University of Passau can then discuss ways of networking amongst themselves and let us know how we should reach out to them and how we can encourage and support them. Please let us know in advance whether you wish to attend. We look forward to the exchange with you!
