Excellent CHE ranking results for the University of Passau

Very pleasing results for the University of Passau were published in the latest ranking of bachelor's and state-examination degree programmes by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE). No less than three departments are in the nationwide leading group: law, business administration and information systems. Law even ranks in the top range in all sixteen categories surveyed among students.

The Faculty of Law received excellent results for the categories "General study situation", "Courses offered", "Organisation of studies", "Support by lecturers" and "Support at the beginning of studies", among others. In all 16 categories, the Faculty of Law is not only above the national average but in the leading group in Germany. The "Exam preparation" category was rated particularly highly, with a top score of 4.7 stars (out of a maximum of 5). Together with the University of Münster, the Faculty of Law at the University of Passau is the No. 1 among German public universities in the area of "Exam preparation support".

"It is crystal clear that the Faculty of Law is indeed setting and maintaining the standards in Germany at the top level, together with Bucerius Law School", said University President Professor Ulrich Bartosch.

The University's Business Administration department is also in the leading group in a number of areas including "Degrees in a reasonable amount of time" and "Publications per professor", whilst the Information Systems department received above-average ratings from students, particularly in the category "Support during studies". The B.Sc. Information Systems degree programme is among Germany's best in the category "Support at the beginning of studies".

In all three subjects, the University of Passau belongs to the leading group in the category "Doctorates per professor".

The CHE results were published on 9 May in this year's ZEIT University Guide for 2023–24. The ranking includes students' assessments of the study conditions at their university as well as facts about studying, teaching and research. This year, law, economics and social work were reassessed. For the first time, students in these subjects also gave their verdict on digital teaching formats. The CHE University Ranking gathers information and data on studying, teaching and research from more than 300 universities and interviews about 120,000 students. The CHE Ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed of its kind for the German-speaking world.
