At Passau’s Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics, students can choose between two four-semester master's degree programmes in computer science: M.Sc. Artificial Intelligence Engineering (English-taught) and M.Sc. Computer Science (German- and English-taught). Both master's programmes were assessed in the new CHE ranking based on student surveys. In addition to the general study situation and support given during studies, the aspects evaluated include the range of modules offered, digital teaching elements, organisation of studies, transition to the master's programmes, supervision by lecturers as well as research and practical orientation.

According to the students surveyed, Passau's master's programme in Computer Science is among the best in Germany in all nine categories. The results in the categories “Study organisation” and “General study situation” are particularly positive and well above the national average. The categories “Range of modules offered” and “Supervision by lecturers” are also rated as above average.

Passau's bachelor's degree programmes in computer science had already achieved excellent results in the CHE ranking in spring. “The results of the current CHE ranking for our faculty's master's degree programmes confirm the excellent quality of our education”, said Professor Gordon Fraser, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics. Dean of Studies Professor Jens Zumbrägel said: “I too am very pleased about the excellent result in the ranking. The results are not only a recognition of our work, but also an incentive to continue offering our students a scientifically sound and practical education in the future.”

The ranking includes students' assessments of the study conditions at their university as well as facts about studying, teaching and research. There are more than 10,000 master's degree programmes on offer in Germany. The CHE Master's Ranking is intended to provide bachelor's graduates with a guide to the large number of master's programmes available. More than 11,000 master's students nationwide took part in the survey.

A selection of the ranking results for Computer Science was published in the ZEIT Campus magazine on Thursday, 12 December 2024. The full ranking is available online at www.heystudium.de/ranking [German content].
