Soccer
Soccer is a fundamental part of the lives of many Ghanaians. At every corner, one encounters this sport in some form. Whether on the soccer fields, where matches are played weekly by various teams, in the evening watching soccer together in front of a TV in a pub, or, as seen in this picture, playing table-soccer in the midst of the community: soccer is omnipresent. The sport stands for community and regularly brings together the inhabitants of towns and villages, and is an important element in creating identity. Many young Ghanaians also dream of a career as soccer players in European, Asian or American leagues (Ungruhe 2022).
