Guidelines for barbecues on campus
1.) Please enquire about a barbecue at least five working days before the date with the Event Management Section.
2.) The food/drinks served, any music or performances and the type of barbecue – charcoal, gas, electric or similar. – as well as any additional fire pits, torches etc. must be specified in advance with your enquiry.
3.) No advertising for companies, catering, etc. is permitted, see guidelines for advertising on campus.
4.) Commercial sales are not permitted. Any sales may only cover the costs of catering/drinks.
5.) Furniture in any form, e.g. tables, cannot be provided.
6.) There will be no electricity/water, i.e. as the organiser you will have to manage without electricity/water. The University cannot provide refrigeration. It may be possible to borrow a refrigerator from the Student Services Association (Studentenwerk) for a fee. Enquiry at veranstaltung-passau@stwno.de.
7.) Outdoor fires must be at least
- 5 metres away from buildings or parts of buildings made of combustible materials
- 25 metres away from highly flammable substances,
- 5 metres away from other flammable substances
- 10 metres away from trees
In the case of open fires, special consideration must be given to the dangers they pose: open fires must be at least 100 metres away from highly flammable substances. Heating elements, air heaters and similar flame sources may be operated at the distances from combustible materials specified by the manufacturers.
Open fires must be kept under constant supervision. Fire and embers must be extinguished when leaving.
Fires may not be held outdoors in strong winds; the fire must be extinguished.
Unprotected fires, i.e. fires that are not in an appliance but, for example, are in a firepit on the ground or in a ground recess made for this purpose, are not permitted.
8.) Set-ups on the granite floor of the various terraces, refectory forecourt etc. is not permitted. Any cleaning costs will be charged to the organisers.
9.) At least one fire extinguisher must be available per fire. They can be borrowed from the caretaker's office.
Anyone who notices a fire must extinguish it immediately and warn people who are at risk if it is reasonable to do so - without putting themselves in danger or violating other important obligations. If the person is unable to extinguish the fire immediately, they must call the fire brigade without delay. Whoever calls the fire brigade must direct the emergency services, if possible and reasonable.
10.) No flammable liquids (oil, spirits) may be used.
Solid substances must not be ignited in fire appliances with flammable liquids unless the respective liquid is expressly intended for this purpose by its manufacturer.
11.) The person at the grill should wear fireproof gloves when serving.
12.) One of the persons responsible for the barbecue must instruct the other members of the sales team in hygiene regulations.
13.) Any waste must be disposed of completely by the organisers, and the area used must be left completely clean. Subsequent disposal of waste may be charged to the organiser.
Upon disposal, ensure that this is only done in fireproof containers and that any embers have been extinguished with water.
Waste must be disposed of in the University's waste containers.
14.) The serving of drinks, any music or loud talking must be finished by 22:00. Any disassembly and cleaning must be completed by 23:00 at the latest.
15.) No drinking games/competitions for the consumption of alcohol are permitted.
16.) The instructions of the security personnel must be followed.
17.) The organisers must inform themselves about the "Ordinance on the Prevention of Fires" and must apply all regulations.
