We will, on the one hand, analyze important strategies for developing powerful English sentences, paragraphs, and text outlines that meet the stylistic and rhetorical expectations of your readers. On the other hand, we are going to discuss ways to organize your writing process successfully and to polish your writing in order to make it as accessible and easy to read as possible. We will begin with some general reflections on the nature of academic writing in English and then move from smaller units of texts (such as sentence construction) to larger chunks of writing (such as typical academic genres). Along the way, we will also consider how to avoid typical pitfalls of academic writing in English.
We will work closely with authentic examples from academic publications in English. However, if you have any sentences and/or small passages from your own writing that you would like to discuss, please feel free to bring them to class.
The workshop is open to anyone interested in developing their writing skills.
