On the occasion of the anniversary, a festival weekend with the university's associations took place from June 8 to 10, 2018.
As a prelude, the Neuburger Gesprächskreis 'Science and Practice' at the University of Passau (e. V.) organized a symposion on the topic 'How digital is our economy' on 8 June 2018. Top-class speakers from industry and science discussed the opportunities and risks as well as the current developments in digitalization.
Discovering exciting projects, lobbing questions at real researchers, hands-on activities, music and culture at the riverside: On 9 June 2018, the Uni Live - Open day provided exciting insights into the work and life of our academics and students on Germany's most beautiful campus.
For the visitors of Uni Live - Open day, the day ended with the celebration for all citizens of Passau, on 9 June 2018 in the Innsteg-Aula and on the Innwiese. The festivites were inaugurated at 5 p.m. by the University's president Prof. Dr. Carola Jungwirth. A Science Slam by junior scientistis, a colorful musical program as well as a culinary offer concluded the evening.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the University of Passau, on June 15 2018 the Bavarian Academy of Sciences brought its, in 2012 established, annual series of events "The Academy visiting..." to Passau. Following visits to Würzburg, Augsburg, Bayreuth, Regensburg, Erlangen and Eichstätt, the event at the University of Passau was dedicated towards the topic "The Digital Revolution - opportunities and risks".
Following a public lecture on "Digital Transformation - Between horrific imagery and promise" by Prof. Dietmar Harhoff, PhD, a public panel discussion on the topic "Life environment 4.0 - our society in transition" commenced at 5 p.m. with Prof. Dr. Thomas Hess, Prof. Dr. Malte Rehbein, Prof. Dr. Barbara Zehnpfennig and Heike Schmoll as moderator. During the discussion, the panelists debated to what extent digitalization could effect the working and life environment.
