Gremary Aza Mengoa is a Peruvian doctoral student at the “Bioeconomic Economics” group in the project: “Residue valorization for bio-based products in developing countries: bridging the gap between technical knowledge and socio-economic realities (ReValueD) “.
Gremary completed a double Master's degree in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis (AFEPA) at the University of Bonn and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences funded by the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. Her master thesis was part of the project “Process-based & Resilience-Oriented management of DIversity Generates sustainabilitY (PRODIGY)”, focusing on valuation of cultural ecosystem services and non-material benefits of nature in the Peruvian Amazon. She has also obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics Engineering at the Universidad Nacional del Altiplano in Puno, Perú. Her bachelor thesis focused on the economic valuation of changes in water quality and their impact on health in marginal urban areas of Puno, Perú.
Additionally, she has worked as a Research Assistant at academic institutions in different countries. The Center for Development Research (ZEF) at University of Bonn, the Environmental Economics at University of Koblenz-Landau, Germany, the Business Administration Faculty at Los Andes University, Colombia and the Economic Research Institute (IIE) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Her research interests lie within the field of Ecological Economics with a particular focus on ecosystem services valuation, bioeconomy and behavioral economics experiments in the global south. Her doctoral thesis will deal with ecosystem services and potential impacts in the production of biobased products residues in Costa Rica.
