Beschreibung

The interdisciplinary seminar aims at elucidating different dimensions of climate from the disciplinary perspectives of ecological economics (Prof Venus), sociology with a feminist critical development perspective (Prof Padmanabhan) and political science (Prof Schaffar) with a focus on the micro, the meso and the macro level. All disciplinary approaches broadly deal with the possibilities of data generation, theories and examples to illustrate the practise. We explore the micro level to understand intersectional aspects like gender in the climate change debate, discuss the authoritarian Thai version of sufficiency economy and learn about data challenges regarding climate impact assessment. The meso level analysis bring us closer to resource extraction like coal mining and climate adaption, we consider different scenarios for small scale farmers and we discuss market-based governance structures to establish climate friendly transactions. At the macro level, we deal with global governance structures to arrive at policies, we pose the question of what climate justice entails intra- and intergenerational und we ask for fundamental alternatives towards the current economic system.
