Recap of our Hike to Ilzschleife and Weinbeisser

Our excursion in July took us out into nature close to the city of Passau. In beautiful hiking weather, we went on a walk around the Ilzschleife in Hals. We started at the  unterer Stausee, walked across the Triftsperre dam to the oberer Stausee and back along the Ilz river, before stopping off together at the Triftsperre restaurant for lunch at the end. It was a very sociable day with new and familiar faces. Thank you to all who were there!

At the end of August we spent a very pleasant evening in the Weinbeisser beergarden in Freinberg (Austria) – with cold drinks, good food, amazing views and above all: inspiring conversations.

Household Utensil Swap

In collaboration with the student organisation AEGEE Passau, the Sustainability Hub is collecting used kitchen utensils at the end of the semester and will be distributing them among students free of charge when the next semester starts. Bring kitchen utensils that you no longer need, such as cutlery, pots, pans, crockery and utensils from your household. Before you donate any items, please make sure they are in good working order, clean, and ready for use. Your contributions will help create a sustainable and supportive community for students. Thank you for your support!

Time: Friday, 27 September, 10:00 – 12:00

Location: HK14b (Hans-Kapfinger-Straße 14b), SR002

Bring: Only small items (no larger than countertop kitchen appliances) will be accepted. No decorative items, please!

Those who are in need of kitchen utensils are invited to pick out items on 2 and 10 October from 11:00 to 12:30.

Recommendation Corner:

Nature & Hiking in the Border Triangle D / CZ / A

A hike up the Dreisessel with its fantastic views is always worthwhile. Thanks to the Ilztalbahn railway, the Dreisessel can also be reached in an environmentally friendly way by bus and train. Ilztalbahn takes you from Passau Hbf to Waldkirchen station. From there, the connecting bus 606 “Haidmühle Grenze” takes you directly to the Dreisessel (bus stop “Dreisessel car park”).We also recommend a hike from Frauenberg town up to the summit if you are up for a challenge.

The starting point is the “Frauenberg Jugendherberge” stop. You can hike up to the Dreisessel plateau via Ewigkeitsstraße and circular hiking trail no. 10, and marvel at the magical mountain landscape and enjoy the view from the Hochstein (1,331 m).

Your way back leads you over the ski slope to the rustic Dreisesselalm, where you can wait comfortably for the bus for the return journey. The bus stop ‘Skilift Dreisessel’ is only 100 metres from the Dreisesselalm.

We would like to give a shout-out to Sabine Rößler and her German Class of 2023 and their nice review, which was our inspiration for this recommendation and can be found via this link.

The Ilztalbahn runs until 13 October and starts again next May, so be quick if you want to seize the opportunity this autumn. You can find here the timetables and more information.

The plays are in German (a very special language practice) and there are symphony orchestras where the language is universal!

To buy tickets online, please click here (only available in German).

If you wish to go to the theatre but you need buddies, please send an email to researchmobility@uni-passau.de, so that we can arrange a group theatre event!
