Lecture: Heat, air pollution, infectious diseases – What lies ahead?

GeoComPass e.v. invites you to the lecture "Heat, air pollution, infectious diseases  – What is heading towards us?".

Climate change does not only threaten our flora and fauna but impacts humans directly. Higher temperature and more humidity influence human well-being; changed precipitation, droughts, floods and easier spread of infections will arise as new challenges. The connections to health and well-being are clear.

Prof. Dr. Elke Hertig (University Augsburg) will explain these correlations on Monday, 03 July, 2023 from 7 to 9pm in Audimax (AM), HS9 (Innstraße 31). The lecture is held in German.

Activities on campus

Sustainability in education: Website Sustainable Consumption

This week, we want to introduce you to an activity in education. A group of students from differing backgrounds has committed to advocate the sustainable consumption of different food items. During the winter semester 2022/2023, they gathered information about the production processes of coffee, cocoa, avocado, paranuts and soy. This information was published online and can be accessed via a German website.

The project was set up in the course of the seminar "Kaffee, Kakao & Co: Wie nachhaltig sind Anbau und Konsum?“ and supervised by Prof. Dr. Schmitt.

Information can be found on the website

Tip of the month

Waste separation in the office:

A lot of trash builds up in the office: paper, post-its, wrappers and banana peels. For proper recycling, it should be separated. The grey bins in the University's offices are for paper waste, the small, black plug-in units for residual waste. Please make sure to separate this correctly. The cleaning staff cannot re-sort due to safety concerns and eventually dumps everything into the residual waste, pullling valuable resources from the recycling process. Organic waste is best disposed of in the kitchens as the bins there are emptied daily.

FIY: The best separation is avoidance of waste. Tips to reduce waste can be found on WIwiHow
