Free charging of e-vehicles on campus ends on 31 August

Thus far, the University has been able to offer free charging of privately-owned e-vehicles at the 28 charging points and the power sockets in the University's underground car parks. However, due to a change in the general conditions of provision of electricity for charging e-vehicles at state institutions, free EV charging will have to end on 31 August. Effective 21 September, the University will charge a price for e-vehicle charging.

You can continue to charge your e-vehicles at our 28 charging points from 1 September (provided you have a permit for the underground car park). No prior registration is necessary; instead, the charging and payment process is done using a QR code and direct payment. Here's how:

Scan the QR code with your smartphone. You'll be shown the current price in real time.
Choose your payment method (credit card and Paypal are currently supported) and start charging your vehicle. The cost will be charged directly to the payment method you indicated. You do not need a user account or subscription of any kind; you simply pay as you charge.
The cost per kilowatt hour at the charging points of the University is expected to be 51.14 cents/kWh plus a surcharge of 5 cents/kWh from the 241st minute onwards.
