“AIAS Passau – Students against blood cancer” is a student initiative that was launched in July 2015. In this initiative, student volunteers educate about blood cancer and organise campaigns to encourage people at German universities to register as potential stem cell donors. AIAS Passau is now a member of the federal association AIAS Deutschland e.V. and part of a successful network with 30 locations. Through nationwide campaigns, the AIAS locations have already been able to collectively recruit more than 56,000 new registrants, from which more than 460 donors have already emerged.
“The registration campaigns in Passau resulted in 12 donors, which is particularly motivating and encourages us in our work”, said AIAS's Henriette Freyer. She hopes that the campaign will not only encourage many students and university staff to register but also raise awareness of stem cell donation and stem cell transplantation in general.
The registration drive for students and university employees will be held on 27 June from 9:00 to 17:00 in the seating area in front of the Nikolakloster reading room.
