The faculties coordinate research and teaching activities and the curricula within their academic disciplines. Each faculty is headed by the dean and his or her faculty administration staff – the Dean's Office. The Dean's Office provides a variety of services and is responsible for coordinating lectures and venues, doctoral examinations, postdoctoral habilitation procedures, professorial appointments, degree programme accreditation and the courses offered at the faculty.
The Faculty of Law is known throughout Germany for its excellent preparation for the First State Examination in Law, which is evident from the corresponding exam results. Moreover, the faculty has recently added two digitalisation-related degree programmes: LL.B. Legal Tech and LL.M. Legal Informatics. The foundation for all this is laid by our relevant and visible research, in which we not only cover the entire breadth of our academic discipline but transcend its traditional boundaries in interdisciplinary fields such as legal history and legal informatics. Internationality is a hallmark of this university and a natural part of our research and teaching. Our students are supported in this particularly by our subject-specific foreign language tuition, foreign exchange programmes and not least by our English-taught study programmes.
FacultyExcellent research on academically challenging and socially relevant topics is central to our work. In addition to publishing our research in prestigious scientific journals, we communicate our findings to non-specialist audiences, actively participate in socio-political debates and work together with businesses. We incorporate our research findings into our lectures and seminars to ensure that our teaching reflects the latest developments in the field and that our students receive a modern education at the state of the Art.
FacultyOur new faculty, which is currently in the process of formation, is home to a wide range of social and educational-science disciplines that offer excellent research contributions and innovative teaching. Our students in the undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes experience didactically and methodically varied, contemporary teaching with a strong research orientation. Our aim is to give our students the best preparation for the complex and particular work situations they will encounter in their various fields of activity.
FacultyThe Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies combines excellent research in the humanities, linguistics, literature, media, art and cultural studies in all their historical depth and breadth with innovative digital methods, and applies them to current global problem contexts. A special focus is placed on research in national cultural areas within and outside of Europe, as well as cultural spaces in the digital realm. Our students gain an education that imparts our innovative research and equips them with the methodological, theoretical and practical critical thinking skills that empower them to critically accompany and actively shape the global cultural-historical transformation.
FacultyThe Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics is the University's youngest faculty. With the Hightech Agenda Bavaria, we are sustainably expanding our work on artificial intelligence and IT security. Our outstanding research and teaching in mathematics and computer science make a real contribution to meeting the challenges of an increasingly digital world. Our diverse research activities range from basic research to technology transfer with industrial partners. Our Master's degree programmes already have a strong international focus, and the Bachelor's degree programmes will also become more international in the future. In both areas, we enable our graduates to shape the digital future innovatively and responsibly.
FacultyEach faculty has a dean of studies, whose job it is to monitor the quality of the study conditions. Working hand-in-hand with the central Academic Advice Service, each faculty has one or more programme advisers, who advise current and prospective students on the various courses offered and the subjects represented at their faculty.
The faculties are composed of individual Chairs, which in turn may be clustered by subject area. In addition, the faculties have institutes which provide project-specific knowledge and undertake special research projects, which benefits the students enrolled at the University and businesses in the region.
